Molecular Markers in Diagnostic Paediatric Bone Lesions
نویسندگان
چکیده
Molecular pathology has become an essential adjunct in the realm of diagnostic histopathology. While gains in this field have been enjoyed in many areas, their impact has arguably been greatest felt in bone and soft tissue pathology. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the emerging role of molecular techniques in the context of paediatric bone pathology, discussing select syndromic and neoplastic processes affecting this demographic. To this end, we review the salient molecular advances bridging both clinical research and clinical practice.

Mastocytosis: a rare case of anaphylaxis in paediatric age and literature review.
The term "mastocytosis" denotes a heterogeneous group of disorders characterised by abnormal growth and accumulation of mast cells (MC) in one or more organ systems. Symptoms result from MC chemical mediator's release, pathologic infiltration of neoplastic MC in tissues or both. Multiple molecular, genetic and chromosomal defects seem to contribute to an autonomous growth, but somatic c-kit D81...
متن کاملDiagnostic and Biological Significance of Immunohistochemical Expression of Osteopontin and Ki67 in Fibro-osseous lesions of jaws
Background and Aim: Fibrous dysplasia (FD) and ossifying fibroma (OF) are the most important fibro-osseous lesions (FOLs) of the jaws with similarities in radiographic and morphological features while showing completely different biological behavior. Limited studies have been evaluated immunohistochemistry markers, such as osteopontin (OPN) and osteocalcin to help differentiate these two lesion...
متن کاملApproval of the relationship of a daughter and her mother's skeleton bone by molecular genetic diagnostic methods
This article discusses the importance of genetics in today’s life and societies, the extent to which this knowledge helps us without time constraints. For instance, to make this topic more tangible, a reference to the Genetics Clinic for genetic investigation in the year 1399, has been described. The referee requested a genetic test using her own blood and a piece of a deceased person’s bone, a...
متن کاملNontraumatic Lesions of the Clavicle in a Paediatric Population: Incidence and Management
Background. The incidence of paediatric nontraumatic clavicle lesions is unknown and there is limited literature regarding the management of such patients. Methods. A review of a prospectively complied radiological database held at the study was conducted for a defined 10-year period. The study centre is the only paediatric service available for a defined catchment population. The case notes of...

BackgroundCongenital generalized lipodystrophy (CGL) is a rare disease. It is associated with near total fat loss, severe insulin resistance and hypoleptinemia leading to metabolic derangements.Case PresentationWe report a 25- year- old female with 1-Acylglycerol-3-phosphate-O-acyltransferase 2 (APGAT2) mutation, and both sclerotic and lytic bone lesions together for the first time. Bone cyst i...
